Coach Fig


Coach Fig (Head Coach) John, also known as “FIG” in the gymnastics world, coached for the University of Denver. During his tenure at the University of Denver the 2004 class qualified for NCAA Regional competition during all four years and qualified for the NCAA National Championships for the first time in DU history. He was also the Associate Head Coach & Recruiting Coordinator at Missouri University. During his time there he helped bring the Mizzou Tigers to average an impressive 49.225 and a 49.250 on the vault and uneven bars in 2010. He has coached Seven All – American athletes while at Missouri University. It was the first time in school history to have qualified to the NCAA National Championships in 2012. After his time at Missouri, FIG moved to Long Island, NY where he ran 5 gymnastics locations, overseeing the staff, athletes, and helping the staff and owners implement schedules and programs to improve the running of the gyms. He also worked with Five All – Americans during his previous tenure at the University of Denver, where he had a hand in recruiting and training the class of 2004, the most successful class of gymnasts in the school history. Prior to his 12 years of coaching college gymnastics, John owned and operated Kentwood Gymnastics USA in Kentwood Michigan from 1992-1999. Six of his gymnasts earned level 10 – JO National Championship titles (all around and events) from 1994-1999. John coached several international athletes as a National Staff Member. He also had athletes at Championships of USA during 1994-1996. For his efforts on the international scene, John was named the USA Gymnastics Region 5 Coach of the Year in 1994 and 1999. John was named the Head Coach for the countries of Venezuela and Norway during his tenure at Denver University and Missouri University, for international competitions.
